746th Tank
Battalion
.
Equipped primarily with the M4 "Sherman" medium tank, the 746th Tank Battalion fought in the European campaigns from D-Day to the end of hostilities. In the initial days following D-Day, the battalion supported operations of the 4th Infantry, 82nd Airborne, 9th Infantry, and 83rd Infantry divisions. After notable successes in Normandy, the battalion was permanently attached to the 9th Infantry Division on 28 June 1944. Fighting side by side with the 9th Division, the 746th Tank Battalion became a lasting part of the "Old Reliables" tradition. |
