Comments: Great Website! My father served with A Company 1st Battilion 39th Infantry Regt. 9th Inf. Div. from 1941 to 1945. He was a rifleman/runner. He was wounded at El Guettar, Tunisia at his first encounter with the German Afrika Korps. He didn't rejoin his outfit until the invasion of Sicily. After Sicily and being in the shadows of the 1st Inf. Div. the unit was deployed to England outside of Winchester for the preparations of D-Day. He landed in Normandy D-Day plus 4. The worst hell this unit ever had to go through was probably the Huertgen Forest, then again I maybe wrong, I have no idea what the Delta was like. You guys have rich history and I look forward to Leon's history of the 39th Inf. Regt.

Comments: My brother, Pat Underwood, served at Dong Duong with a construction engineers outfit in the Central Highlands. Just found the 93d EVAC Hospital website. Served many a Nam soldier in Long Binh. You can see this site on the 36th infantry division's website discussion area "forum." It's the same hospital known for the famous Patton slapping incident, served my father when hit by mortars at Selestat, France in WW2 while fighting in the Colmar Pocket. Real WW2 MASH photos of WW2 and Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia. Greg Underwood at GregColmar@hotmail.com PS: Check out my entries for Colmar Pocket action.

Name: Vernon F. Weed
Unit(s) C Btry 1/11 Arty and FO Attch to D Co 6/31 Inf
Dates 12/68 to summer 69
Comments: Started as Crew Chief on 105mm,in C Btry 1/11 Arty. Soon sent out as Recon Sgt (FO) to D Co 6/31 Inf from about Mar 69 till sent back to Hawaii in summer. Cpt Quesenberry was CO, later Lt Slining(sp?). Sgt Mike Karnisky was other Recon Sgt. Lt Jackson was the FO that showed me how to not kill myself or all the others. We worked out of small firebase near Dong Tam called Moore(I think), flew us to Plain of Reeds and Parrots Beak many times. When they started pulling units out of field to go home we spent several days on USS Benewah anchored in Mekong River. Disbanded us in Hawaii and I stayed there a year to help form the 4th Bde of 25th Div., in C Btry 5/13 Arty. Also on burial detail at the Punchbowl, National Cemetery of the Pacific, in Diamond Head. Got out in July 70. Proud to have fought with 9th Div., still have my Octofoil Assoc. membership card. Would like to hear from anyone in my units. This is a very good site.
