| Comments: | I served in the 26FAB at O'Brien Barracks in Schwabach, Germany during
the "Cold War". I had transferred in from the 21st FAB, 5th Inf. Div. at
Sheridan Kaserne in Augsburg. Most of our officers and NCO's were combat
verterans of WWII and/or Korea. They constantly spoke of "when the Russians
come" not "if the Russians come". They trained us accordingly. I found my
time in the 26th one of the most valuable experiences of my life. I am very
proud of all those who fought wearing the "Octofoil", particularly am I proud
and amazed at the decication, bravery, and partriotism of those Vietnam troopers
who gave so much and received so little in return from so many at home. All
I can say is "Thank You!" |

| Comments: | Just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed checking out your 9th Infantry
website. I was with B Trp 3/17 Air Cav in 1968-69 and worked with you guys
on a daily basis. I flew Snakes and my call sign was Stogie 37. For a while
I was liason at Tan An and for that period of time was Stogie 9er. I won
a DFC one day supporting one of your units that was engaged in a heavy firefight
to the west/southwest of Tan An as I recall. I remember that the Cong were
so close that for me to be effective and to make sure I didn't hit any
friendlies, I was going up to about 2500 feet to start rocket runs and put
it in as near a vertical a position as I could. Finally our Scout pilot took
a hit in the leg and we had to break off, but we put a big hurt on the Cong
before leaving. At least the 9th Infantry CO in the C & C ship appreciated
our efforts, as he was the one who wrote us up. I believe the Scout pilot
recieved a Silver Star (but not positive of that) as he was really hanging
