| Hi there. I am a WWII reenactor. I am with a small unit that portrays
the 9th Infantry Division. More specifically, we do the 47th Infantry of
the 9th Infantry Division. I am hoping that all veterans of the 9th Division who read this will help me out a bit. I would like to hear from them concerning their times in combat-where, when served, any particulars. Basically any combat stories. Plus, I would really like to hear what you personally carried with you in the field-toiletries, letters, rations, etc. I know you didn't sit around in your foxhole memorizing what you had in your pockets just in case someone asks about what you carried in the future, but anything you could relate would be great. | My uncle Elmer served with the 9th Infantry Division during WW 2. He arrived in Normandy on June 10 and was wounded near Aachen, Germany late September, 1944. His outfit was overrun near a "farmhouse" outside of town. His wounds prevented him from retreating and his buddies hid him in a loft at the farmhouse for 2-3 days while the Germans made the farmhouse a command post. My uncle and his friend were never captured and once the Germans left the farmhouse they made it back to their lines. My uncle was sent back to England and then to the Cleveland Clinic where he recovered from his wounds and returned home to Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania. He died of natural causes in 1989. He was a special peson and if anyone served with him I would love to talk to them. | |

| My father, Donald Roemeling, was in the 9th Division in WWII and saw
action in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Cherbourg, St. Lo, the Huertgen
Forest, Battle of the Bulge, etc. through the end of the war. I am not sure which regiment he was in, but I believe it was the 60th. He was very proud of his military career, and always spoke highly of the 9th Division. He passed away two years ago, and I am hoping to find someone who may have served with him during the war.
