| Comments: | I was a Helicopter Pilot in the 191st AHC (Boomerangs). On 30 September 1968 we were flying Combat Assaults for the Ninth Division down south of Ben Tre. We dropped troops into several cold landing zones in the morning, and then hit one that was hot. We made several more sorties into that LZ, losing ships from our flight of ten, until there were only five left flyable. We were then to insert a large number of troops into a second LZ that was near the first with our five remaining slicks. On the first approach to that new LZ we received withering fire but made it into the LZ. With our D Model Hueys, our standard load was six, so we inserted 30 troops into that landing zone. I was flying in the lead aircraft and we took numerous hits resulting in many fuel leaks, and probably looked like we were on fire on takeoff. We limped back to the Pickup Zone, along with another Huey from our flight, and the other three of our ships made it back to Ben Tre. None of the aircraft were flyable anymore due to damage from hostile fire. I have always wondered, and worried, and prayed for the thirty guys we left in that LZ. If you were there, or know what happened to them, please let me know. |

| Comments: | My uncle S/Sgt Paul E. Alexander was killed on June 14,1944 in France. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross and his family never knew until I found it on the American Battle Monuments Comission Website. He is buried at the American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach. He lost his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and 2 nieces who never knew of this award. I was finally able to locate it at the National Archives after four months of looking. He has a sister left, and she and I are in the process of getting the Medal but we are told it will take 6-8 months. Fifty-six years is a long time to wait, but if his Mom had brought him back home to be buried we never would have found out. I want to thank the ABMC Website and everyone who helped with the search for the citation. |

I was still there when we started closing down Dong Tam; and had to dismantle the barbed wire enclosed building next to the TOC. And then had to road march the equipment to the 25th Inf. Not recommended as a scenic route for vacations. Would like to hear from any SSG types. |

He was transferred to the 25th in Sept of 1970, and was killed in Nov. He must have sent the film home to his mother here in LaPorte and she had it developed with the idea that he would label them when he got home. So we are in possession of around 50 black and white photos, and would love to know who the people are in the pictures. And actually helped out a few .. I loved the on Base massage parlor and other extracuricular activities .. There was even a swimming pool there . And i acheived my Black Belt there also . All was not bad , but damn was i glad to leave that place. God Bless all the guys who survived their time in hell. Best expeiance i had of Navy and Army working together. There is a place in my heart for them . |

| Comments: | I served with Echo TAB as a Senior Radar Operator. Many people may not
know this. But, Echo TAB was deployed to Southwest Asia during Operation
Desert Sheild and Desert Storm. My unit supported the 210th FA Brigade, which
supported the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment with Target Aquisition Counter
Battery Fire Support. The 9th INF Division played an active role in repelling
the Iraqi Republican Guard from Kuwait and demonstrated the the power and
will of the US Army. I proudly wear the 9th ID patch on my right sleeve.
For all those that served with the 9th, before and with me I salute you.
