Comments: Howdy, I see there are a few others who enjoyed the waterfilled wonderland of exotic South Vietnam. I served with Company E, 3rd Battallion of the 47th Infantry from March 68 to August 68,"Third herd". It's tough, you know, just writing these few lines. Cant talk to folks who aint got the T-shirt and dont know who's on "the Net" that's for real. Well, I aint writing a book, good to see there's a place for us, now.

Comments: Served with the 9th Infantry Division from October, 1979 to March, 1982 with the 9th Adjutant General Company (yes, a clerk!) I have fond memories with the Old Reliables, as it was my first assignment in the Army after basic training and AIT. I happened to be on Temporary Duty (TDY) at Fort Lewis the summer the 9th Infantry Division was deactivated, and took photographs of the ceremony. If anyone is interested in the photos, just let me know, and I will scan and send 'em in.

Comments: Was in DISCOM of 9th Inf Div., near Navy end of Dong Tam Base Camp. Was in Bearcat Jul-Aug 68, then moved with unit to Dong Tam and was there from Aug 68 - Jul 69. Came home with first unit withdrawn, 3/60 Inf, to Seattle for big parade and a few parties, then home. Used to sit on parimeter and listen to mortors (theirs) coming out of the tubes, then see them explode all over base camp. Would call back to CP and Dong Tam Base Defense and they wouldn't let up fire them up. Was there when Ammo Dump was blown up. Was there when Fuel tanks at airfield blew up during mortar/rocket attack. Air Boats were in DISCOM. They were neat but made a lot of noise. Could hear them coming 2 miles away. Spent some time on USS Benewah. Found out the Navy did eat better than the Army; cleaner living areas too. So Long. R Burns

Comments: I lost a bunch of bookmarks I had on Prodigy Internet, and while looking around to try and replace some of them, I discovered your page.
I went over with the 9th from Riley in 66. We loaded all TO&E equipment on rail flatcars, jumped on a troop train and headed for Oakland, CA. From there we boarded a ship, but dang if I can remember the name, and sailed for 22 days arriving in Vung Tau. As you know, our basecamp was Bearcat, but back then it didnt amount to much. I was a Warrant assigned to the 9th MI Det. I flew most days with "people sniffer" missions or back seat with Airforce FAC'S and Army Birddog AC in the capacity of G2 Targeting Officer.
Nice finding a site regarding the "Sunflower Division".

Comments: HQ Company, 3rd Brigade, Ninth Infantry at Tan An, Long An Province; and Di An, near Bien Hoa, Dong Nai Province. 6 April 1970 to standdown cermonies. I have been living and working in Saigon, as HCMC is still most frequently called, since January 1994. Vietnam has just this week (21Jan98)gone on-line to permit us direct, though filtered and observed, access to the Internet. However, we've been using BBS in Hanoi and Australia for two years to get E-mail. I was with Legal Begals during the time Dan Williams commanded the Ninth. As defense counsel, I may have interacted with some of your friends. My time as an active duty lawyer was limited, for due to my 25% success rate, I was fired as being too good! Some whose cases I may have lost may not have agreed with the DOA. Please visit my website that is still in construction. We expect to expand it substantially in the next few weeks. I will be honored and proud to meet with any returning vets, particularly you wonderful guys of the Ninth. A particular interest of mine is to connect with any who may have served with 1Lt Mark Toshik of the Special Forces unit at Tan An.

I went over as a squad leader after going through the instant NCO school in Fort Benning, and ended as platoon seargent. While in country many members of the Division joined the Octofoil Association. The Association was to publish a nice Division "Yearbook" like many of the other division had. I have seen a draft copy of the book, but it never went to press. They also had the photos to go with it. I guess when the division was deactivated the project died.

Comments: Served with the 9th MP Company, 2nd Plt, at Dong Tam in Nov 1967 till Feb 1968. It seems every one I meet from the 9th has been kicked out of the bath house by an MP. If memory serves, the siren would be sounded at night and that would do the work for us? Along with the mortor or rockets coming into the base. Thanks for everyone's help during my short stay with the 9th till Tet, and every one who responded on December 23, 1967.
