Landed at Utah Beach, remembers huge air raid on St Lo. Next stop was the Bulge which was a nightmare with no sleep. Crossed the Rhine at Remagen, remember watching jet bombers trying to destroy bridge at high altitude. Was captured about two weeks later for about a month while Gerry gave me a personal tour of the Harz Mountains. Gerry let me go in the basement of farmhouse and woke up the next morning and he was gone. Met up with my unit the next day, captured some Germans the next day. Not a lot of us left anymore, but if you're out there, I'm still here. |

Kelson Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In! From: Brooklyn, NY Time: 1998-07-30 07:52:14 Comments: The page is well done brought back a few memories. I was assigned to A Troop 3/5 Cav 9th Inf Div on 5 June 1967. I served as A Troops Commo Sgt, I thought!, done alot of radio repair on the back ramp of Tracks. From June 67 to Jan,68 I was in the Southern area. After TET 68 we were sent up North, after a couple of months, I then took over the Scout Section for A Troop, and served in the areas of Quang-Tri, Au-Sha, Alpha 4, C4, Ho-Chi-Minh trail, Dong Hoa Valley, and many other forgotten places. My Scout vehicle was C21, and one night outside of Camp Evans we received a rec rifle hit into the engine compartment, with seven additional RPG hits on the side, how we survived is beyond me, but we were left for dead in the impact zone, and spent the next 4 hours repelling boarders, until 4 hours later when we were relieved by a company of the 82nd ABN. I'm looking for Putska my driver, and Casanova my rear gunner, Also anyone knowing about my treatment on board the Hospital ship Sanctuary for a collapsed lung in Feb 69. I was returned to duty after 2 weeks hospitalization, and a 30 day leave. Anyone remember the action at the edge of the Au-Shau place called Bastogne, or Bertchesgarden as was the name that the 82nd Abn used??.In Sept 69 I was transfered to Fort Riley, then to C Troop 4/7 Cav 2nd Inf Div Korea, as Lead Scout I finaly retired in 1976, and spent the next 20 years plus as an Electronic Tech, guess repairing those radios with transistor radio parts paid off. Lest We Forget. If you are wounded I will carry you, If you are captured, I will come for you, and if you were killed, I will always remember you. Frank The Commo Man. |
